Using Table Top Glass to Create a One-of-a-Kind Table or Counter Top

Creating a table or a counter top that’s guaranteed to be the focal point of a room is easier than you might think,  a table top or counter made of glass captures everyone’s attention. The awesome thing is that glass can be custom-cut into a wide variety of different shapes and sizes. You can get different thicknesses, edge finishes, colors, and you can even have it etched if you’d like.

Get Creative with Your Table’s Base

This is where it pays to “think outside the box.” You are able to get very creative with choosing the base of the table. There are so many different objects that can be used to form a table base that the only real limit is your imagination! Click on the following links to see some clever designs and ideas. All of them utilize table top glass to allow the unique table base to take center stage:

  • An uprooted tree’s root system form the base of a truly unique dining table topped with a large round glass table top to form a table that accommodates six people comfortably and is sure to be a conversation-starter!
  • This creative homeowner used a hollowed-out stump found on his property to form the base for this inexpensive glass-topped patio table.
  • On old oak wine barrel topped with a round glass table, top showcases used wine corks and provides an interesting conversation piece and a handy place to pour wine for guests.
  • This homeowner used reproduction antique corbels mounted to the wall and a long rectangular glass table top to create a one-of-a-kind (and lovely!) console table for an entry hall.
  • A rustic outdoor table made of nothing more than a few distressed pallets stacked on top of one another and topped with a rectangular glass table top!

Let the Glass Play the Starring Role

Using a glass table top to create a stunning effect doesn’t necessarily need to depend on a unique base. Using colored or textured glass can do the same thing if you use your imagination as the folks in the following rooms did:

  • A turquoise glass bar over a lime green counter top steals the show in this kitchen/dining area.
  • Thick pieces of glass take on a greenish tinge, and this thick slab of textured glass makes an eye-catching countertop on this kitchen bar that coordinates with an adjacent fireplace/chimney.
  • This homeowner created watery-looking counter tops for a pair of bathroom vanities with a low-iron-content glass top with a painted underside.

Getting Practical with a Glass Table Top

  • The owners of this elegant dining room turned a small table into a dining table to accommodate a large dinner party crowd.
  • With just a couple of saw horses and a long rectangular glass table top, this homeowner created a desk for a home office that’s much nicer than those cheap-looking veneered particleboard “desks” you find in office supply stores, and probably spent less doing so!

As you can see, a glass table top is a lot more versatile than you might have thought. It allows you to get a much more unique creation, as your imagination is the only real limit.
